The wine country of Napa Valley is simply spectacular in the spring time. Driving north I was smitten, yet again, with the vibrant colors-sunny mustard, emerald vines, citrus shades of poppies and brilliant blue skies. The scene melds into a technicolor dream in my mind and the beauty is surreal. I relished those quiet moments as I headed to join my equally ‘dreamy’ friends of #bloggers in the Napa Valley for lunch.
The view from Domaine Carneros
As I enjoyed the drive I reflected on how much the Napa Valley feels like home to me. I moved there as a teenager, 30+ years ago, leaving home for the first time to join my best friend at college. I was carried across the threshold, as a new bride at age 20, in a little duplex on the hill. Years later I landed just 20 minutes away, and lived as a friendly neighbor to one of my favorite places. We saw each other often. The valley holds a trove of memories- wine cave weddings, concerts in the vineyard, celebratory birthday weekends, romantic getaways…..a first kiss, a fresh start, warm family times and deep, dark heartbreak. I remembered, with renewed sadness, there was a time I could not visit the valley, for more than over a year, though I lived only minutes away. It felt too crushingly painful to relieve the happier times that were lost. As with most things in life, with time, there is renewal, restoration and healing. Hope and happiness return. I promise………. I can again fully embrace the valley, it’s colorful charms, and the lifetime of memories it has shared with me.
Toasting our arrival in Napa Valley at Redd in Yountville for #bloggersinnapavalley
If you’ve been following our #bloggersinnapavalley getaway here on Instagram and Facebook this week you’ve had a glimpse of the beauty of this place and the warmth of time with women friends. Traveling to Napa Valley, with blogger friends, was another first for me, and we shared an unforgettable experience. This weekend I will be unpacking, catching up with my husband, and putting together a more detailed post on our adventure. Looking forward to sharing more of this beauty and the beauty of these blossoming friendships. I miss them already.
