Welcome to Stylemindchic Lifestyle!
It happened last week, Stylemindchic Lifestyle turned 3 years old!! I mentioned it earlier this month, and received some congratulatory comments from readers, so I thought I would just let it pass by. Then I thought about how much effort it takes to birth a blog, keep a blog up and running, and remain stubborn enough to stick with it for 3 years. I decided it was worthy of taking a breath, and taking a moment to celebrate. Maybe even blow up some balloons like Secrets Maroma Beach did for my birthday in Riviera Maya a couple of years back. It must be said, that blonde hair is screaming “too much sun and fun at the pool”. Despite the platinum/greenish tinged tresses, I was in a celebratory mood and this photo makes me laugh. If you know me by now, I don’t take myself too seriously. Let the celebration begin!!
My home office
Blogger friends, do you ever feel like blogging is a bit like childbirth? I mean that in an online kind of way, of course. I remember feeling that way the day I published my first post, on blogspot, back on January 22nd, 2012. It had taken me three days just to figure out fonts, headings, images, sidebars and a title. My content was almost zero. I inserted a photo of a sunset from our deck, talked a bit about pinterest, my renewed love for the color yellow, and that’s about all. “Let’s Get it Started in Here”, the title, came from that Black-eyed Peas song that was stuck in my head. I had no idea what I wanted to say, no idea what my online ‘voice’ would become. I only knew I had to ‘birth it’ to figure it all out. Isn’t that just like life? Sometimes you have to take the plunge into the deep-end and let it happen.

As I look back, from just over the 3 year mark, I can see how my blog has grown. On most days I feel that I have found my voice, though I have my moments when I question the whole thing, like many of us. I have met some incredible women bloggers, from around the world, that I count as friends. I’ve been fortunate to meet a few in person and some of them have become treasured friends (you can catch them in my rotating ‘Blog Crushes‘ in the menu bar above). We have shared so much of life in these last 3 years, haven’t we? This is my favorite thing about blogging.
The thing that may not be obvious, on the outside, is that blogging also takes courage. If you desire to share an authentic voice in the online community, as I do, it comes with inherent risks. Risks of being vulnerable, feeling misunderstood, or sharing too much and regretting it later. I feel you need to have a bit of a thick skin to be a blogger. Readers, bloggers and even friends, may come and go on a blog. My advice is don’t take it personally. In the end, we blog for that one person out there who may need inspiration, encouragement, or a smile that day, and we do it for ourselves. I’ve been lucky, you, my readers are lovely, kind and supportive. Your comments, and our ongoing conversations, enrich my life on a daily basis.
As for me, I’ll keep blogging; it both challenges and inspires me. Besides, I would be sad to lose the amazing connections, like you, that I’ve made through my blog. I am also excited about some upcoming travel collaborations that are in the works. No doubt there will be ‘sunny escapes’ in our future. I definitely enjoy creating my travel posts for you. Since it’s my blog birthday, I have a favor to ask. I would love to know why you stop by Stylemindchic Lifestyle, and what kind of posts you would like to see for this upcoming year. Your comments will help inform my planning and I love to have your thoughts in the mix.
We are blowing out the candles and making a wish today….
I celebrate you for stopping by, each and every time.
Cheers to you!
